    Big Bass Giveaway

Love to fish? We’re giving away a bass boat!

To say that fishing is one of the most popular outdoor recreation activities is a bit of an understatement. A recent survey showed that more than 55 million Americans reach for their fishing poles each year.

Here at Isle of Capri® Boonville, we’re a fan of fishing and fishermen everywhere, and to help show how much we love fishing, we’re giving away a brand new bass fishing boat this month!

To get you all set for your new boat and the hours of angling you’ll enjoy, here are four expert tips to help you make the most out of bass fishing:

    1. To catch a bass, you’ve gotta be the bass

Sounds silly, but it’s true. Bass fishing experts recommend steeping yourself in bass habits to truly understand the fish you’re after. When it’s sunny and warm, bass typically find shelter and make themselves scarce. When it’s overcast, they’re more apt to roam freely in search of food. Keep that in mind the next time you’re out on the water and adjust your fishing spots accordingly.

    2. Know the holy grail of bass fishing

If you’re after the big-mouth bass (and who isn’t?), you’re looking for largemouth pre-spawn season. Typically, bass pre-spawn happens during early spring and is most prevalent when water temperatures reach between 55 and 65 degrees. The bass tend to move to shallower areas at this time as they search for the best place to nest.

    3. Live bait brings the fish

Plenty of bass fishermen out there avoid using live bait, but it can be a great way to get your hands on a big one when you find your lures just aren’t getting you any fish. Experts say shiners get good results, especially when hooked through both lips or just behind the top dorsal. Other good choices include worms, crayfish and frogs.

    4. Don’t stress about lures

The size of your lure doesn’t influence the size of bass you’re going to catch, it’s true! Largemouth bass will strike at prey that's up to 25 to 50 percent of its own body length. Those large, fancy lures can catch small bass if that’s what you’re after. If you’re not getting any bites, don’t be afraid to switch up the lure size now and then to see if that catches the bass’ attention.
